Dear Members of the Hellenic Society of Criminology,
We say today our farewell to Emeritus Professor in Criminology at Panteion University Alice Giotopoulos-Marangopoulos (1917-2018), the Founder and Honorary President of our Society, and the President of Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights. She significantly contributed to the science of Criminology, the promotion and defense of human rights, the feminist movement efforts and gender equality, as well as the fulfillment of democracy and social justice. Therefore, we genuflect with respect, sorrow and devoutness to her memoriam, and we reminisce her vivid spirit, her combativeness, her thorough scientific knowledge and her humanism.
Since we would like to pay tribute to her, the Executive Board of the Hellenic Society of Criminology (HSC) decided to offer the symbolic amount of 100 Euros to “EPANODOS”, the Released Prisoner Reintegration Centre under the auspice of the Greek Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights. We also decided to devote to her memoriam the under publication third issue of the Society’s Newsletter “Crime and Punishment” and our Conference on Crime Prevention, that will be held in Athens next January.
The President and the Members of the HSC Executive Board
